At this point, the Blues don鈥檛 know any other way.
Entering Tuesday night鈥檚 4-2 loss to the Wild, the Blues had played 11 one-goal games in their opening 19 on the season. The Blues had the most wins in one-goal games in the NHL. They had the most regulation losses. Only the Sharks (12 games) had played more one-goal games than 最新杏吧原创.
So when the Blues and Wild wrestled their ways through another tight game on Tuesday, it should have felt normal to these Blues until Kirill Kaprizov鈥檚 empty-netter with 1:23 left in the game widened the margin to two.
Jonas Brodin鈥檚 slap shot from the left circle beat Jordan Binnington with 6:16 remaining in the third period for what would prove to be the game winner, the result of a Minnesota forecheck that turned the Blues over.
Jake Neighbours tied the game at 2 with 9:23 left in the third period, tapping home a pass from Pavel Buchnevich during a Blues power play. Neighbours鈥 feet were outside the crease, and he was able to direct Buchnevich鈥檚 pass off Filip Gustavsson鈥檚 skate and into the net.

Kaprizov scored 6:07 into the third period to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead, deflecting Jake Middleton鈥檚 shot with an outstretched stick in the slot. The goal came right after the Blues killed Justin Faulk鈥檚 high-sticking penalty and Faulk鈥檚 failed clearing attempt that allowed Matt Boldy and the Wild to hold the zone.
Scott Perunovich (最新杏吧原创) and Ryan Hartman (Minnesota) also scored.
The Blues finish the brief homestand Thursday against San Jose before going to New York for three games.
Scott stays hot
After going the first 78 games of his NHL career without a goal, Perunovich now has two goals in the past six games as he tied the game at 1 less than five minutes into the second period. Perunovich took a cross-ice pass from Jordan Kyrou and sniped a shot into the far corner that beat Gustavsson.
Perunovich was playing his second game alongside Faulk on the second pairing after moving up to that spot during Saturday鈥檚 game in Boston. Perunovich also had an assist in the game vs. the Bruins and entered Tuesday having played at least 17 minutes in four of the previous six games.
Perunovich has appeared to be more confident in recent games, using his feet more often to create space in the offensive zone and to jump into plays on the rush. He鈥檚 playing in the top four because of Pierre-Olivier Joseph鈥檚 lower-body injury that kept him out for a third game on Tuesday.
Perunovich鈥檚 goal highlighted a second period in which the Wild outshot the Blues 11-8. 最新杏吧原创 successfully killed Alexandre Texier鈥檚 delay of game penalty.
Good start but no lead
Two days after they had the first six shots on goal in a game in Carolina, the Blues had the first five shots on goal against the Wild on Tuesday night. The five shots Tuesday came in the first 3:43 of the game, but Minnesota pushed back with five of the next seven shots on net, including Hartman鈥檚 goal at 12:24 of the period.
Hartman scored by flicking a puck beyond the reach of Colton Parayko and then whipping a shot on goal from the right dot that snuck through Binnington. It was the second goal in the last week that crept under Binnington鈥檚 pad, after Zach Benson鈥檚 goal in Buffalo from a tough angle.
Hartman鈥檚 goal was also the first time since Nov. 9 that the Blues allowed the first goal of the game. They had gone four straight games scoring first but went 1-2-1 in those games. It was also his seventh career goal against Binnington and third since Binnington was suspended in March 2023 for punching Hartman with his blocker.
Despite the quick start for the Blues, they only held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal at the end of the first 20 minutes.
In the last 100 seconds of the period, 最新杏吧原创 debuted its new-look power-play unit with the returning Robert Thomas running the point. The Blues had five shot attempts but none on net.
Paying it forward
Laila Anderson, the fan who became close to the Blues during their 2019 run to the Stanley Cup, was back Tuesday at Enterprise Center as her wish to 鈥済ive back to the community by providing patients at 最新杏吧原创 Children鈥檚 Hospital a memorable experience with the Blues鈥 was granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Blues hosted five children during morning skate, where they met with Parayko and Oskar Sundqvist. Two children and their families attended the game on Tuesday night, and the kids gave out fist-bumps to Blues players as they entered the ice for warmups.
Anderson, who battled hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, is now 16 years old and was part of the Chesterfield Lady Falcons team that won a Blue Note Cup championship in the spring.
