Letter: USPS should address budgetary woes by nixing Saturday delivery

Letter: USPS should address budgetary woes by nixing Saturday delivery

Regarding "USPS suspends nonessential spending" (May 31 print edition), about the budget woes of the U.S. Postal Service because of the rise in digital communications: I understand as I have been paying my bills online for years.

Letter: While Americans suffer, their president is working only for himself

Letter: While Americans suffer, their president is working only for himself

Americans are struggling to make ends meet these days. Health care costs and insurance premiums are up. More and more families are priced out of the housing market. We have to hold our breath in the checkout lane at the supermarket. And then there's the cost of a gallon of gas.

Letter: Cardinals fans, get over your downtown-phobia and come out

Letter: Cardinals fans, get over your downtown-phobia and come out

We need a new moniker. "The best fans in baseball" doesn't quite fit anymore. The Cubs come to town and we don't sell out. When they played the Rangers on Monday, the stadium was less than half full, according to ESPN's reported attendance.

Letter: For America's 250th year, work against erosion of democracy

Letter: For America's 250th year, work against erosion of democracy

It is a supreme irony that Donald Trump, the most unpatriotic of our presidents, holds the nation's highest honor during the 250-year celebration of our country.

Letter: Transgender swimmer's record demonstrated how unfair it is

Letter: Transgender swimmer's record demonstrated how unfair it is

Ed Shew's essay 鈥淭rans athlete bans target an issue that barely exists today鈥 (May 28) attempts to show the various points of view regarding transgender women competing against women in women's sports, and comes down on the side of, 鈥淒enying trans people the right to participate is discrimination.鈥

Letter: The Pope is right: AI technology cannot replace human morality

              T. S. Eliot was born in 最新杏吧原创 in 1888; there is a star on the Delmar Blvd. sidewalk honoring him. After graduating from Harvard he moved to England and became an essential poetic voice of the 20th Century. In the opening stanza of "The Rock" Eliot laments, "Where is the life we have lost…

Letter: Media should keep a running count of days in this pointless war

Letter: Media should keep a running count of days in this pointless war

Friday's top front-page headline caught my attention: "Reports: Iran, US have deal." (May 28.)

Letter: Gov. Kehoe was right to reject call for suspending state gas tax

Letter: Gov. Kehoe was right to reject call for suspending state gas tax

                • May 31, 2026

In moments like these, when families are feeling the strain of rising prices at the gas pump, it is understandable that elected officials want to offer relief. But leadership also requires honesty. Politicians at both the state and federal levels have proposed suspending fuel taxes to lower …

Letter: Government by referendum isn't the right way to run the state

Letter: Government by referendum isn't the right way to run the state

                • May 31, 2026

I suspect I鈥檓 not alone in disliking referenda. They are a repudiation of our representative form of government. ("Editorial: Missouri voters can and should stop two really bad ideas on the Aug. 4 ballot," May 27.)

Letter: Proposal to raise the ballot-initiative bar diminishes democracy

Letter: Proposal to raise the ballot-initiative bar diminishes democracy

                • May 31, 2026

Please join me in voting no on Amendment 4 in the August 4 election. ("Editorial: Missouri voters can and should stop two really bad ideas on the Aug. 4 ballot," May 27.)

Letter: Ken Paxton's victory in Texas primary is a sign of moral decline

Letter: Ken Paxton's victory in Texas primary is a sign of moral decline

                • May 31, 2026

Most historians with a Rome expertise cite a short list of primary factors for its decline. Leading up to Rome鈥檚 final days, wealthy Roman aristocrats were able to avoid paying imperial taxes, effectively starving the state of revenue. Sound familiar? The shrinking tax base was exacerbated b…

Letter: Both Missouri ballot measures in August chip at citizens' rights

Letter: Both Missouri ballot measures in August chip at citizens' rights

                • May 29, 2026

I have to laugh to myself, quietly, when I see the two proposed constitutional amendments on Missouri's August ballot. There is a relationship between the two that the party in power may not have intended to expose to public scrutiny. ("Editorial: Missouri voters can and should stop two real…

Letter: Courts, not Trump, should determine if there is 'weaponization'

Letter: Courts, not Trump, should determine if there is 'weaponization'

                • May 29, 2026

President Donald Trump's $1.776 billion "anti-weaponization" fund is the most egregious and blatant corrupt act ever perpetrated against the American taxpayer. ("Editorial: Missouri Republicans stay silent as Jan. 6 criminals eye tax-funded payouts," May 24.)

Letter: Reuters content in Post-Dispatch is better than what AP offered

Letter: Reuters content in Post-Dispatch is better than what AP offered

                • May 29, 2026

I have noticed, and it has been refreshing, to see the Post-Dispatch switch from Associated Press to Reuters for many of its news articles and analysis. As I see it, those articles have been far more balanced and less biased as well as providing more facts, background, and other information.…
