America was much more of a mess at the bicentennial than today | Jonah Goldberg

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, America is in a foul mood, and I understand why. For starters, Washington is broken, prices are high and rising, and artificial intelligence is scaring the stuffing out of people.

      • By Collin Preciado

Last week, ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ rockstar turned restaurateur Steve Ewing had a truly horrible few days. In addition to the windows of his restaurant being smashed in two nights in a row, his wife and dog were attacked in Tower Grove Park, with his dog losing its life as a result of its injuries.

          • By the Post-Dispatch Editorial Board

Editorial: SAVE’s sticking point, as Hawley surely knows, was the proof-of-citizenship requirement, which was a cynical solution in search of a problem.

          • Jun 9, 2026

Regarding "Missouri appeals court keeps tax overhaul on Aug. 4 ballot with revised summary" (June 5): It would be colossal mistake for Missouri taxpayers to vote to replace the state income tax with increased sales taxes and fees.

Regarding the op-ed "Real-world benefits of AI are getting lost in fearmongering" (June 4 print edition): What a poorly written defense of artificial intelligence! One-sided and weakly sourced, the authors give us gaslighting reasons why we should be in favor of AI.

Regarding "×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ police board to consider raises as high as 22% for top brass" (June 2): The Board of Police Commissioners' proposed pay raise for supervisors is all wrong. They need to turn their chart around and give the police officers higher raises.

A rare strain of Ebola is quickly and devastatingly spreading through war-torn provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
