鈥淚 can鈥檛 wait to let the cat out of the bag,鈥� she says聽during an interview just days before the second half of the fifth season was about to premiere.

In that episode (spoiler alert!), Patriarch John Dutton dies, leaving the others to pick up the pieces and move on.

For Asbille and Luke Grimes, who plays her husband Kayce Dutton, it has been a grueling year. In the first half, a pregnant Monica loses her baby following a car accident. Kayce is put in control of the Yellowstone ranch while sister Beth and brother Jamie duke it out in the world of politics.

While creator Taylor Sheridan has suggested this second half will be the end of 鈥淵ellowstone,鈥� both Asbille and Grimes would consider a sequel or a continuation.

鈥淲e鈥檝e both kind of said if Taylor were to call us and say, 鈥業鈥檓 writing more,鈥� we would be open to that,鈥� Grimes says. 鈥淚f it were other writers, maybe not as much, just because I don鈥檛 think anyone else knows how to tell this story or speak for these characters the way Taylor does.鈥�

Getting to work with Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, among others, has been like a master class for Asbille. 鈥淚鈥檓 constantly learning,鈥� she says. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 the privilege of working on a show for seven years. You鈥檙e never done.鈥�

Because of breaks for various reasons, 鈥淵ellowstone鈥� has been in production for some eight years. That has created tight bonds, Asbille says, and a sort of confidence. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know how to do this without them.鈥�

Grimes, an actor for 20 years, says being unemployed 鈥渋s part of the gig. You know you may never get something that鈥檚 as good as this. But maybe life will surprise us again.鈥�

The six episodes in the second half of the season are emotional, Asbille says, 鈥渂ut because it鈥檚 the last one, we just wanted to put everything into the season. We鈥檙e really proud of it.鈥�

Where the family sits after the first episode 鈥� with Beth and Jamie Dutton at each other鈥檚 throats 鈥� is anyone鈥檚 guess. 鈥淎 little sunshine and rainbows鈥� emerges, Asbille says. 鈥淎nd then, 鈥榊ellowstone鈥� comes back to bite us.鈥�

Monica and Kayce, who have represented a sense of calm for the series, have given the actors something to hold onto while the storms rage elsewhere.

鈥淜ayce is such a good person, even though he has demons,鈥� Grimes says. 鈥淗e always wants to do the right thing and I鈥檝e looked up to that in him and tried to incorporate a bit of that goodness into my own life.鈥�

To remember the character, he grabbed Kayce鈥檚 hat and jacket before he left the series. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e the quintessential pieces of wardrobe I got to take home.鈥�

For Asbille, the exit wasn鈥檛 as definitive. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 think of anything鈥 need to go back to the set鈥� and get something, she says with a smile.
