SLU faces defense even stingier than its own in Bryant in 3rd round of NCAA soccer tourney
In 最新杏吧原创 University鈥檚 second round NCAA tournament game, Billikens coach Kevin Kalish put a big bet on his defense.
Knowing he was fielding a tired team against a rested and high-scoring Indiana squad that liked to pressure its opponents, force turnovers and strike, Kalish figured that plunging into the attack would merely play into Indiana鈥檚 hands and feet. So he had his team drop back, play defense, bend but not break, and then look for chances to attack. It worked. SLU got one good scoring chance聽鈥 on a play Kalish said they worked on in the hotel parking lot before the game聽鈥 finished it, and then held on for dear life as it beat Indiana, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, 1-0, for its first win ever over the Hoosiers in the NCAA tournament.

Backup goalkeeper gets Maryville women's soccer into NCAA Sweet 16 for first time
It鈥檚 the kind of story that seems like out of a movie: Backup who hasn鈥檛 played all season and gets thrown into big situation, makes big play and saves the day.
That鈥檚 what happened to Maryville sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Sulawske. She got a knock on her hotel door on Nov. 20 and was told, quite unexpectedly, that she would be starting in goal that afternoon in the NCAA Division II women鈥檚 soccer tournament. Sulawske ended up having to play in the first two rounds. And when the second-round game two days later went to penalty kicks, she made two saves in the shootout, including the save that sent Maryville to the Sweet 16 for the first time.

最新杏吧原创 City SC declines options on three players in advance of deadline
最新杏吧原创 City SC finalized its required roster decisions Tuesday, declining the options of midfielder Seth Antwi and defenders Jayden Reid and Joey Zalinsky. The team had held off on making those decisions when it made its initial set of option decisions but faced a deadline of noon Wednesday to get them done.
The moves are the first real decisions made by new sporting director Corey Wray. The team announced two signings since he was hired, of backup goalkeeper Ben Lundt and defender Josh Yaro, but those were moves that were well down the path to completion before Wray was hired.
Mother Nature didn鈥檛 account for little Liya. Friday鈥檚 weather seemed determined to be gloomy and gray and gross, yet it couldn鈥檛 compress the sunshine that illuminated from the 11-year-old鈥檚 smile.

Worthy: How David Critchley and 最新杏吧原创 City SC showed 'culture' is more than a buzzword
If I鈥檓 being completely honest, the current age of coaches, sports executives, players and pundits have pushed me to the edge of a 鈥渃ulture鈥 crash out. Some folks have made that term, culture, too much of a buzzword and catch-all phrase for anything that ills an organization. It鈥檚 also near the top of the list of things mentioned when a club takes a positive turn.
So yes, I鈥檝e been guilty of succumbing to a glazed-over look when someone like 最新杏吧原创 City SC interim coach David Critchley expounds on the impact of culture on the soccer club.
最新杏吧原创 City SC will open 2026 season on Feb. 21 vs. Charlotte at home; still no Messi
Major League Soccer won鈥檛 move to its summer to spring schedule until 2027, but fans will get a feel for what a summer break will feel like in the 2026 season.
City SC will go without a game from May 23 to July 16 while the World Cup is going on in America, a 7 1/2-week break not unlike what its offseason will look like when the league shifts the start of its season from February to July in 2027.
Who will coach 最新杏吧原创 City SC is uncertain, but team hopes offseason work will help
A year ago, 最新杏吧原创 City SC鈥檚 season ended with no playoffs but with a wave of confidence, with its offense becoming productive thanks to new acquisitions, the team reasonably healthy and some positive results on the field, winning three of its last five games. The players and staff went home for the winter expecting good things in 2025.
