The ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ area has one of the largest shares of vacant homes in the country, according to a new report from real estate information firm ATTOM Data Solutions.
With some 4,730 vacant houses, an estimated 5.93 percent of ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´â€™ housing stock was vacant, according to the report from the Orange County, Calif., firm.
That was the third-highest percentage of vacant homes within a single county or independent city.
×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ trails Genesee County, Mich., which contains Flint. It has 10,666 vacant homes, or 7 percent. Baltimore (also an independent city) has the largest proportion of vacancies, with nearly 17,917 vacant homes, or 7.83 percent of its housing stock.
Some neighborhoods may be beyond saving; others need help now. Â
But the ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ area has another county in the top 10: St. Clair County in the Metro East. The county that includes East ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ has 3,774 vacant houses, or 4.9 percent. Its vacancy rate was ranked No. 9 in the ATTOM Data Solutions report.

The largest number of vacancies in the report was Wayne County, Mich., which contains Detroit. But even with 35,396 vacant houses, dwarfing the number in other counties, only 5.6 percent of the county’s housing stock was vacant, slightly lower than ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´, according to the report.
