ST. LOUIS 鈥 Jet, the 最新杏吧原创 Zoo鈥檚 newest, youngest and possibly cutest elephant, can now be seen by the public for the first time.
The Asian elephant calf was born Nov. 23 at the zoo. He has spent the five months since his birth out of public view, bonding with his mother, Jade, seeing the world for the first time and learning how to do elephant things.
He has also been packing on the weight. Jet now tips the scales at 578 pounds, adding more than 300 pounds since his birth. He was first weighed when he was nearly two weeks old, and was a healthy 262 pounds then.

鈥淛et is a curious young elephant. He loves to run around, play in the dirt, and climb over logs. He is always eager to work with his training team to learn behaviors that help us to make sure he is staying healthy 鈥 like opening his mouth to allow us to look at his teeth and gums,鈥 said Katie Pilgram-Kloppe, Zoological Manager of River鈥檚 Edge at the Saint Louis Zoo.

Jet has also bonded with another female elephant, Sri. The zookeepers call Sri, 45, Jet鈥檚 鈥渁untie,鈥 though they are not related.
