The 最新杏吧原创 Blues used the first round of the NHL draft to add three centers, selecting Tynan Lawrence at No. 11 and Maddox Dagenais at No. 16 while also acquiring Mason McTavish from the Anaheim Ducks.
最新杏吧原创 traded the Nos. 15 and 29 picks to Anaheim for McTavish, who could address the Blues' need for a second-line center.
The team entered the draft with four first-round picks and 13 selections overall, including three in the third round, creating a chance to reshape their prospect pipeline or redefine their core in the NHL.
鈥淲e want to get some variety in our picks, if possible,鈥 Blues GM Doug Armstrong said earlier this week. 鈥淲e鈥檝e drafted heavily defensively lately, and our organizational depth chart could use players in a couple different slots."

Night's over
9:24 p.m.: Doug Armstrong met with reporters in 最新杏吧原创 about 30 minutes ago, signifying that the Blues' night is done on the first night of the draft. The second round starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, but the Blues don't currently own any picks until the third round.
Dagenais at No. 16
8:04 p.m.: The Blues took another center in the first round when they took Maddox Dagenais at No. 16. He is a left-hand shot that plays in the QMJHL for Quebec, and had 62 points in 62 games.
Dagenais was projected to go late the first round, so 最新杏吧原创 picking him in the middle of the round was a bit of a surprise.
Barring any other trade by the Blues, 最新杏吧原创 is done picking in the first round.

Last one of the night?
8:02 p.m.: After the trade for McTavish, the Blues are on the clock for their last pick of the night at No. 16. Ethan Belchetz and Ryan Lin are both still available.
Blues pick up McTavish
7:51 p.m.:聽The Blues acquired center Mason McTavish from Anaheim in exchange for two first-round picks (No. 15 and 29). 最新杏吧原创 needs a second-line center, and the team hopes the former No. 3 pick can prove to be that.
最新杏吧原创 traded two first-round picks (No. 15 and 29) to the Ducks to pick up Mason McTavish on Friday night, betting that the former No. 3 overall pick can bolster the Blues' center depth.
最新杏吧原创 up again (twice)
7:45 p.m.: The Blue Jackets took Oscar Hemming at No. 13, setting up back-to-back picks by the Blues at No. 15 and 16. Big winger Ethan Belchetz is available, and so is undersized defenseman Ryan Lin.
Blues pick Lawrence at No. 11
7:26 p.m.: With their first pick of the night, the Blues took center Tynan Lawrence from Boston University. Lawrence was one of the youngest players in college hockey last season, and helps fill a need for the Blues down the middle.
After using top picks on winger Justin Carbonneau and defenseman Adam Jiricek recently, the Blues needed more center depth behind Dalibor Dvorsky.聽
Lawrence is listed at 6-1 and 183 pounds. He had an uneven year last year after joining BU midseason from Muskegon of the USHL.

Cullen goes, Blues up
7:22 p.m.: Wyatt Cullen goes to the Predators at No. 10. Wonder if the Blues go with a center like Tynan Lawrence or a big winger like Ethan Belchetz. Maybe another option? Or do they set up their next two picks at No. 15 and 16.
Top nine all gone
7:15 p.m.: The general consensus top nine projected players have all been taken in the top nine after Keaton Verhoeff was selected by the Sharks at No. 9. With two picks before the Blues are on the clock, Tynan Lawrence, Ethan Belchetz, Malte Gustafsson and Wyatt Cullen are all available.
D continue to fly
6:57 p.m.: The Flames, by taking Carson Carels, made it three defensemen in a row, following Daxon Rudolph to Buffalo and Alberts Smits to the Rangers. That means big names like Chase Reid and Keaton Verhoeff remain available.
First surprise of the night
6:43 p.m.: The Sabres were the first team to go off the board and select defenseman Daxon Rudolph with the fourth overall pick. With Rudolph going higher than expected, there exists the possibility that other players fall down to the Blues at No. 11 -- or in a range that the Blues can realistically trade into.
Stenberg goes to SJ
6:29 p.m.: There was hope that the Blues would be able to trade up to the second overall pick to select Ivar Stenberg. Instead, the Sharks held on to the pick and selected Stenberg at No. 2. Stenberg, of course, is the younger brother of Blues forward Otto Stenberg.
