The 2025 Post-Dispatch All-Metro winter series continues with boys wrestling.
Belleville East junior Jonathan Rulo is the All-Metro boys wrestler of the year. Rulo became East's first boys wrestling state champion in February.
Hillsboro and Whitfield finished second and third in the Class 3 boys wrestling state tournament team standings.
Wyatt Dannegger said: "This year, I went into every match expecting to win and I was able to accomplish that goal."
A returning Post-Dispatch All-Metro selection, Hairston finished the season at 45-1.Â
For the second time in three seasons, Hillsboro's boys have qualified in all 14 weight classes. It's a rare feat and something that could bode well for the weekend.
"I've coached him forever, and he's won a lot," East coach Rashad Riley said. "I didn't get super excited. I just wanted to make sure he did it."
"I just put the work in and that's what I did to get to this point," said Drake Champlin, who is Wood River's all-time wins leader.Â
"This has not happened in over 80-something years," Pierre Walton said. "To be the first to get it done, it's amazing."
CEDAR HILL — Youth took center stage Saturday afternoon in the finals of the Class 4 District 1 wrestling tournament Northwest High.
"The thing that sets Jonathan apart is his mental approach,''Â Belleville East High wrestling coach Rashad Riley said.
"I'm very comfortable wrestling in the finals," East ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ wrestler Pierre Walton said.Â
EDWARDSVILLE — The streak continues for the Edwardsville High boys wrestling squad.
"I don't believe we've ever won this tournament and we've been coming here a long time,'' Lafayette coach Joe Wier said.Â
"I've been coaching and teaching a long time and Peyton's special,"Â St. Pius X coach Jeff Hoese said.
CREVE COEUR — Westminster senior Luke Hornburg was looking for a challenge. He got it, and then some, over the weekend in the 57th annual Eric Lewis Wrestling Invitational at Mary Institute Country Day School.
