Photos released by the ×îÐÂÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Metropolitan Police Department show suspected participants of a "street takeover" event Saturday in the city's Bevo neighborhood.
ST. LOUIS — Police released three dozen photos Monday night of people who they say may have helped block a police SUV from passing through a south city intersection over the weekend.
The photos show some teens speaking into cameras. Others pose with weapons. Some carry signs, including one showing a gas price. Several have their faces partially covered by masks.
"Behavior like this interferes with police operations and creates serious safety risks for everyone involved — including officers, bystanders, and drivers," a police spokesman wrote in a statement.
The incident, which occurred Saturday at Morgan Ford Road and Gravois Avenue, was part of a chaotic evening of shootings and street takeovers across the city.
At around 9:30 p.m., authorities were called to the intersection in the city's Bevo neighborhood after witnesses complained of fireworks being set off and reckless driving.
When officers arrived, their SUV was surrounded by attendees. A woman fell after hanging out of a car, police said.
The officers were not injured. The woman suffered minor injuries.
Now, police say they're looking for information about people who attended the event. Anyone with information, they say, should call the department detectives at 314-444-0100.
"Residents and visitors have the right to enjoy our city — but dangerous and reckless behavior like this will not be tolerated," the police statement said.
"Any reckless disregard for life or property will not be tolerated," Chief Robert Tracy said at a news conference Wednesday.
